Holsworth, of St. Johns, Mich., died April 8 after a long struggle with cancer. She was known as "Princess Lacey" to the Spartans.

She was an inspiration to the Spartans basketball team and was particularly close to Adreian Payne.

The event will be open to the public, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET. Doors to the Breslin Center open at 6. Parking and admission are free.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Holsworth family is asking attendees make donations to charities of their choice in her name.

Because the event will be a celebration of Lacey's life, the Free Press noted, those planning to attend should "bright colors and smiles."

Those who wish to make a contribution directly to the family can do so to PO Box 101, St. Johns, Mich., 48879.

It was a sentiment Payne felt as well. "She wouldn't want me to be sad," he told CBS Detroit last week. "It's hard."

Michigan State held a vigil for Lacey, who loved Spartans basketball. She was often seen in Payne’s arms, smiling beneath the blonde wig she wore to cover effects of her chemotherapy for neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma is a nerve-cell cancer. She was diagnosed in 2011.

"I learned so much, just seeing her fight every day," said Payne, who had become a big brother to Lacey. "It's really been hard. She taught me to preserve through anything and just be strong."

Lacey is survived by her parents, Matt and Heather Holsworth, and three brothers: Will, Mitchell and Luke.
