In the first ride starring Mickey and Minnie, guests will enter the recreation of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, which has been a part of the park since its opening in 1989. While the Chinese Theatre at Hollywood Studios used to be the entrance to The Great Movie Ride, it has been closed since 2017 in anticipation of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

But today, guests at Hollywood Studios will join Mickey and Minnie on a runaway train adventure. Upon arriving at the Chinese Theatre, guests will watch Mickey and Minnie embark on a journey in a movie short titled Perfect Picnic.

They pass Goofy driving a train, and bump into Pluto, who causes cartoon chaos to erupt. Eventually, the screen explodes and guests are invited to walk through the newly-formed passage and board Goofy’s train.

But the exploding wall isn’t the end of the cartoon shenanigans. Somehow, Goofy accidentally releases his driver’s carriage, leaving the passengers in the carts to roll away into a room marked “Keep Out.”

Passengers travel through various scenes including the Wild West, a fairground, a cityscape, and even an underwater world, all while Mickey and Minnie try to stop the runaway railway.

On its website, Disney tells its guests that they will “climb aboard a runaway railway and embark on a whirlwind ride through a world where the rules of physics don’t apply,” and guests should “prepare for unexpected twists, slapstick gags and mind-boggling transformations at every turn, as Mickey and Minnie try to save the day.”

This ride is suitable for all heights and for preschoolers, kids, tweens, teens and adults. Children under seven years old must be accompanied by someone aged 14 or older.

There is also an audio description and handheld captioning on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Wheelchair and ECV users must transfer from their chairs to enter the ride. Additionally, Fast Pass is available to use on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Also opening today at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort is an original Mickey and Minnie movie short called Vacation Fun at Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios.

The movie short features clips from Mickey and Minnie’s favorite vacation memories, with new animation and scenes from Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg and Outback at Ya!.

After the show, guests are invited to take a photo in a life-sized recreation of Mickey and Minnie’s world. The ride is suitable for all ages and heights and is accessible for wheelchair and ECV users.
