Part of that was thanks to OneGuide, a feature that linked your Xbox One up to your cable or satellite box. It let you browse the TV listings and watch TV without leaving the console interface.
However, times have changed. From the beginning of May, Microsoft will retire TV listings for OneGuide on Xbox One.
TV Listings for OneGuide Are No More
As announced on the Xbox blog, TV listings in OneGuide are going away, apparently as a result of “customer usage and feedback”. Presumably Microsoft looked at the stats, saw not many people were using the feature, and decided to retire it.
The blog post from Jonathan Hildebrandt, Principal Program Manager Lead at Xbox, reads:
Technically, OneGuide will still be available on Xbox One as a way to view your connected devices, but there’s little benefit to that. The useful live TV guide feature will be no more.
While the newer Xbox Series consoles have some media features, Microsoft positioned it more clearly as a games console. The OneGuide feature isn’t available there, nor are TV tuners supported.
