Bringing a Little Fun to Microsoft Teams Meetings

As a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to The Verge, the company wants to bring a few fun treats to Microsoft Teams users. This includes “casual games” with which attendees can challenge one another when a meeting crawls on for a little too long.

The full list of games has not been released at the time of writing, but the spokesperson was confident that the final product will contain Connect 4, Solitaire, and Wordament. Microsoft also states that it wants to bring its Casual Games catalog onto Teams, which may mean you can soon play Mahjong with your co-workers when it’s not your turn to speak.

Is Microsoft Teams the New Employee’s Fave?

It may seem weird for Microsoft to add a feature to Teams that can hinder productivity, but it’s potentially a very smart move. After all, if the employees are kept happy, they’re more likely to want to hold meetings in Teams than in any of Microsoft’s competitor’s products. And mid-meeting games are bound to appease people.

And if we dare to imagine further, it’s not too farfetched that we may soon see Xbox and PC games on Teams. After all, Microsoft has its wildly popular Xbox Game Pass plan, which comes with the Xbox Cloud Gaming service on the Ultimate tier. And because Xbox Cloud Gaming lets you play AAA games within a browser, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine it playing within Teams, either.

Will Games and Productivity Mix?

While Microsoft hasn’t given us many details about its plans for games in Teams, we can definitely speculate as to what the company can achieve. We’ll just have to wait and see if the company gives employees the chance to field a few rounds of Halo Infinite during the earnings meeting.
