The Detroit News said in an editorial published Saturday that Whitmer’s push to shut the Line 5 pipeline was “indefensible” in the wake of the Colonial pipeline’s shutdown and ensuing fuel shortages. The local newspaper also said the Democratic state leader’s alternative proposal to carry the fuel by rail or road instead was “ridiculously inadequate,” and argued that infrastructure would “buckle” were her plan to go ahead. The Canadian firm that operates Line 5, Enbridge, flouted an order to shut down the oil pipeline last week....

Cases and hospitalizations have more than doubled in the past two weeks, as well, and the state has averaged more than 6,700 new cases a day in the last seven days, according to the Times....

Michigan hospitals were treating 3,780 COVID-19 patients as of April 9—more than a 400 percent surge from the state’s hospitalizations last month on March 9, when 937 patients were in hospital, according to the state department of Human and Health Services. Of those hospitalized, 19 percent are in an intensive care unit and another 9 percent are on a ventilator. The spike in COVID-19 patients is part of a growing trend within the state....

A fundraiser was held during the event for ChadTough, the foundation named for Chad Carr, the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. Chad died from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a brain tumor, on Nov. 23, 2015. Various outlets reported Wednesday that Tucker, 49, and the Michigan State Spartans will soon be inking a new 10-year, $95 million contract, an approximate yearly value of $9.5 million. Microsoft has announced that it will be retiring Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. This was first seen on the blog post drafted by Sean Lyndersay who also is the partner group manager for Microsoft Edge. Lyndersay stated that this had been coming for a long time and it was time for a transition of all the IE users to Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge. He also explained that Edge was easier, swifter, and most importantly more secured than most of the web browsers used today....

This revelation came forth during a recent interview between IGN and Penello, where the Xbox marketing head dropped the aforementioned quote. Twitter user Wario64 managed to snag the clip and post it on social media for gamers to witness, although it does little to provide fans with additional information on the Xbox One X. Still, Penello did stress that a “very cool” pre-order program was in the works for fans, but just what this pertains to is still very unclear....

Microsoft’s Quest for Edge on Linux As spotted by Windows Central, Microsoft has brought the Microsoft Edge Beta onto Linux distros. If you use Debian or Ubuntu, you can download Edge as a .deb file; otherwise, if you use Fedora or openSUSE, you can grab the .rpm instead. If this news sounds familiar, it’s because Microsoft previously released a dev version of Edge onto Linux back in 2020. However, now Linux users can grab a more updated a stable Beta version as Microsoft paves the way toward a stable release....

This boastful statement comes despite a year on year dip on hardware sales from 836,000 last year to 819,500 this year. $838 million was spent on Xbox 360 hardware and software in November accounting for the majority of November’s $1.4 billion spent on non-PC sales. The HoloLens isn’t quite the same as the Vive, the Oculus Rift, or Sony’s Project Morpheus, since the HoloLens’ reality is “augmented,” not “virtual.” Basically, that means that instead of making the user feel like they’re somewhere else, the HoloLens projects holograms onto the real world. Everything surrounding the user is still there; there’s just more of it. That doesn’t sound as immediately appealing for gaming, which historically thrives on creating a complete sense of immersion in a virtual world, and Microsoft isn’t necessarily marketing the HoloLens as a gaming device....
